Dougie MacLean Show CANCELLED – March 29, 2009
We just heard that Dougie MacLean is stranded in Alaska due to the volcanic activity on Mt. Redoubt. Volcanic ash has forced them to close the airport in Anchorage, and many flights have been cancelled. Dougie was set to leave for Seattle this morning, but his flight was cancelled. In fact, all flight out of State were cancelled. Nothing has left Anchorage for over 24 hours. He tried to get another flight, even tried getting to Fairbanks for a flight, but wasn't able to do that as the local flights are full and many roads are closed. He then tried to rent a car to drive to Whitehorse, but couldn't find a rental car company that would do a one-way rental. He will now be be stuck in Anchorage until Tuesday night. So he'll also miss his chance to sing at Hampden Park on Wednesday.
We wanted to give a heads-up to anyone who is travelling from out of town for tomorrow night's concert. Please check our website and your email for updates and we'll let you know when we can reschedule the show. Right now it looks like September 2009.
If you have already purchased a ticket we will honour it for the rescheduled date, or we can issue a refund. This will take a couple of weeks as we are in the middle of an administrative pile-up with deadlines for grant reporting, tax filing, and such. We also have to get the April issue of the Rogue Folk Review out this week (or early next week.) Please bear with us, or if you'd like to help out, please email us.
Thanks - and apologies (and curses on the volcano gods!)

Wheelchair Accessibility at St. James Hall – February 26, 2009
The elevator is back in action (for the time being!) The problem was very minor and had nothing to do with its lifting capacity. However, the old elevator most certainly does need to be upgraded.
Plans are in place and St. James Community Square hopes to begin work on this exciting upgrade some time in March or April 2009 - as soon as all the permits have been processed at City Hall. The $60,000 project will take about 2 months complete, during which time there will not be any alternative to the stairs to access the raised main floor of the building. Please call ahead to 604-739-9373 to find out the status of the elevator. Please accept our apologies for this temporary inconvenience.
Colin Linden, Whitey Johnson concert review – February 16, 2009
Wondering what is so special about the way we do things at the Rogue? To find out, read Joe Montague's review of our January 30th concert with Colin Linden and Whitey Johnson. Here's an excerpt:
It was an epic moment for the history of blues music in Canada, and it took place at a little venue in the west end of Vancouver, British Columbia, a night that was promoted by of all things The Rogue Folk Club, whose name really does not do justice to the tremendous artists encompassing several genres, whom they bring to Vancouver. On January 30th, arguably the two best Canadian blues guitarists and singer / songwriters in the past two decades, Colin Linden and Colin James shared the stage with Whitey Johnson, whose name may not be as familiar to music lovers, but whose songs definitely are, as he penned them under the pseudonym of Gary Nicholson. [...] The kicker is that although Linden who was the headliner, had invited his friend and former Nashville neighbor Johnson (originally from Texas), to join him in Canada, Colin James was not supposed to be on stage, and just happened to be at St. James Hall on this evening, probably because he is a longtime friend of Linden.

Call for design of a big poster – February 11, 2009
We are very excited that we have been granted 12 Bus Shelter Advertisement Spots across the city in April. We need to design an attractive poster to advertize our 3rd annual April In Paris Festival (April 25 & 26). These posters are very large and need to be top quality screen prints. If there are any graphic artists / designers out there who would like to see their work displayed prominently for 3 weeks - and which would help us to get our website and our Django Festival into the public eye - please email Steve Edge.
We have to submit proofs of the artwork by March 20th and have the final artwork ready by April 1st so this is coming up fast.
Elevator at St. James Hall out of service – February 2, 2009
Important Notice: The Elevator at St. James Hall is out of service until further notice. We regret any inconvenience to our patrons, and look forward to the new, upgraded elevator. This might take a few months to complete, however.
Your participation is requested for a Focus Group – January 30, 2009
We are partnering with BCIT and three Marketing Students to come up with a Marketing Plan for the Rogue Folk Club. It's an important part of their course work, and should prove invaluable to us as we continue to seek funding to preserve and enhance our concert series. The students would like to meet with a focus group of Rogue Folk club members and concert attendees. The proposed date is February 11th at the BCIT downtown campus. If you are interested and would like to participate, please contact us a.s.a.p. and we will forward your name and email / phone number to the students. The results of the focus group are / will be strictly confidential and your privacy and anonymity are absolutely guaranteed. Please email Steve Edge if you would like to help.
