Sunday 2:30-4pm

www.facebook.com

Tune in every Sunday from 2:30 to 4 pm for the finest in traditional and contemporary bluegrass; old time music and REAL country on Coop radio’s ‘In the Pines’. Several programmers each possessing unique tastes and passionate opinions present a compelling mix of vintage and contemporary recordings. From the early Opry days through the ‘dim lights, thick smoke, and loud, loud music’ of Honky Tonk, Outlaw, to alt country, whatever that is; and then we throw in all manner of bluegrass and old time music  and you're right where we want you, IN THE PINES.

Usually includes a weekly calendar of related LIVE events, local; regional and global, often with musical previews and some very good surprises featuring Canadian and lower mainland musicians.

There is a weekly rotation that goes something like this: 1st Sunday – Kathleen Nesbit; 2nd Sunday – Paul Norton and Sue Malcolm; 3rd Sunday – Rob McGregor; 4th Sunday – Jim Burnett (AKA The Stern Old Bachelor): 5th Sunday – Gwendolyn Reischman.

Tune in each and every week to see what’s happening. Like us on Facebook. What’s not to like?  And check out our video!

Accordion Noir
World/alt/accordion

Wednesday 10-11pm

www.accordionnoir.org

Wednesday nights from 10-11 pm, Bruce Triggs and Rowan Lipkovits host what is, as best as they can tell, the world's only radio show with the specialty theme of music containing squeezebox and free-reed instruments of some kind or another. On the air at Vancouver's CFRO Co-op Radio (100.5 fm, Starchoice 845 and Telus TV: Channel 718) since December 2006, their broadcasts are also podcasted to an international audience of hundreds at accordionnoir.org

Aiming to represent the global diversity of regional musical genres and styles the instrument is used in, the show celebrates and champions the renaissance of the dark, edgy accordion over the Lawrence Welk-ian “champagne music” that stultified the instrument’s public image in North America for decades.

We aim to continue (with the huge assistance of local accordion star Geoff Berner) an annual Fall Accordion Noir festival of accordionic musical performances (and here it is at www.facebook.com/AccordionNoirFestival ) and screenings celebrating squeezeboxes in film, and also host a monthly gathering of local squeezebox users at Spartacus Books the first Thursday of every month -- a gathering with its own Facebook group over at www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2315256047
