American songwriter Tom Russell returns with a monumental new CD, The Rose Of Roscrae. It's chock full of songs and stories of loves lost, dreams dashed, buffalo hunts, Indian wars, crooked judges, and heroes and villains of the Old West. The double CD, which runs over 2h 40m, has a companion book - a libretto with lyrics, stories and bios of the guest performers. Even by Tom Russell's standards, this is a remarkable opus! We can't wait to hear some of these new songs and stories, performed Live, accompanied by the brilliant Portland guitarist Thad Beckman

How will he encompass songs from his enormous back-catalogue and still manage to incorporate some of this amazing new material? Come and find out for yourselves! We guarantee these will be two incredible nights at The Rogue! Tickets are selling fast, so book yours now to avoid disappointment. A.G.M. Notice 2015

Rogue Folk is a registered non-profit society and a democratic organization. We are required by law to hold an Annual General Meeting, to which ALL members are invited. We hope you will attend. The more members that attend, the better our chances of securing government grants. We need to elect / re-elect 5 Board members. If you are interested in joining the Board please contact board@roguefolk.bc.ca as soon as possible

This year the meeting will take place on Saturday June 27th at 6pm at St. James Hall (3214 West 10th Avenue) - right before the doors open for the second Tom Russell concert in the hall. Members attending the A.G.M. will get first dibs on seats to this show!

Vancouver Folk Festival Tickets 2015

Every year we offer our members the chance to buy Early Bird tickets to the Vancouver Folk Music Festival. These tickets are at a discounted price and they have to be paid for around a month before the festival. This year the Vancouver Folk Music Festival runs July 17-19 at Jericho Beach Park.

Early Bird Weekend Tickets are usually $145 (plus a $4 service fee) through the VFMF website. We are offering them for $135 (including service fee), on sale until the deadline of midnight Sunday June 14th 2015.

This year we are only selling them online through our website. Only current Rogue Folk members can purchase tickets so make sure your membership is up to date before trying to purchase your tickets online. The website will only allow you to buy them if your membership is current. You can buy as many tickets as you like for your friends and family.

Radio Waves

Margaret and I are off to Ireland for a couple of weeks, so Heather McCain will be hosting The Edge On Folk on CiTR fm 101.9 and www.citr.ca on Saturday June 6th and Saturday June 13th (8am to noon.) Please tune in and support her on the air! I'll be back on June 20th with some new music from the Doolin Folk Festival (June 12-14) and some Canadian festival previews as well as an extended look at Tom Russell's remarkable new opus, The Rose Of Roscrae

Meanwhile, why not tune in to Radio Rogue? Last week I staged the 30th Anniversary of The Edge On Folk. It was not easy to choose the songs, let me tell you! On my first "pass' through my favourites in my iTunes Music Library I came up with 769 songs! A serious cull whittled it down to a mere 189 songs! This was making me feel both anxious and more than a little guilty about who to leave out, so I made a random selection (thank you, Apple!) of 50 songs and arranged them into my usual format (an African / international Hour; a Roots / R&B / Cajun / Blues hour; an Old-Time / Singer-Songwriter Hour; and a mostly Celtic and Trad. Hour) but I also had two bands playing LIVE (Bon Debarras and Ten Strings & A Goatskin) so I only managed 43 songs from the final list! So much music, so little time!! I've now put most of the original 769 songs into the Radio Rogue playlist - added to a good crop of Tom Russell, Oysterband, Maggie Bell & Dave Kelly songs, and a few festival highlights, too. Radio Rogue can be accessed from our website, any time, night or day. Enjoy the full spectrum of folk music the way I like it (I hope you like it, too!)

On Saturday June 27th, CiTR will move from its home in the old Student Union Building and into the brand new SUB! The Edge On Folk will be the final show in the old home! We are all very excited about the new space, which will include a movable wall opening onto a small auditorium for an even better LIVE radio concert experience! We'll also have some incredible new state of the art equipment - thanks to all your wonderful donations and support!
