Keep in Touch

There are two ways you can receive these updates automatically:

Hi everyone

I'm a bit late getting this out. I was working on the December issue of the Rogue Folk Review. It is now available for download.

Don Ross & Brooke Miller - Friday November 30th 8pm at St. James Hall

It's time for another demonstration of amazing things you can do with a guitar - if you have heaps of talent and you practice, practice, practice! Don Ross is a master of the fingerstyle guitar - twice decorated as the finest such player on the planet. Whenever he returns to the Rogue - he's been playing to full houses here for almost 20 years now - he has plenty of new material, a new instrument or two, and he usually has another musician on the bill as well. This time it's his wife, Brooke Miller, who has just released a superb new CD, "You Can See Everything", on Hickory Records. Don produced it, and plays a few instruments I had no idea were in his arsenal: lap steel, dobro and mandolin! Brooke is an excellent guitarist herself, and has a rich, smooth voice like a fine red wine. So, it promises to be another fabulous evening at the Rogue, with lots of new songs and tunes from both musicians, and plenty of collaborations too. There are still tickets available. You can buy them on-line, or in advance at Highlife Records or Rufus' Guitar Shop. There will also be tickets on sale at the door. www.gobyfish.com www.brookemiller.ca. Concert Details

Saturday, December 1st

Don't forget to say "White Rabbits" when you wake up! Then tune in to CiTR fm 101.9 from 8am to 12 noon for The Edge On Folk. I've got some excellent new CDs again this week, notably Le Vent Du Nord, The Maenads, Norah Rendell & Brian Miller, and will delve further into new CDs by Kate Rusby, Karine Polwart, Orchestra Baobab, Youssou N'dour, Show Of Hands, Erynn Marshall & Chris Coole, Tracy Grammer, Oi Va Voi, Robert Plant & Alison Krauss, and SONiA & disappear fear - and lots more. You can also tune in on the net via www.citr.ca

Contra Dance

The final Contradance of 2007 takes place at St. James on Saturday evening with The Sybaritic Stringband joined by Rich Goss, a caller from Oregon.

Mailing Party, Sunday December 2nd, 2pm

If you can help out, please call Wilma on 604-734-4808 and she will give you directions. You'll meet some fine folks, hear some music by upcoming performers, eat some wonderful pizza, and you'll feel really good about yourself. Oh yes, you get a free ticket to a concert as well!

Guy Davis & The High Flyin' Rockets, Sunday December 2nd, Cap College, 8pm

Brilliant American bluesman returns with his band, named after one of his famous double-entendre songs. The guitarist, Nerak Roth Patterson, is extraordinarily talented. I'm really looking forward to seeing them again. There are still tickets left. Call 604-990-7810 to book yours. www.guydavis.com. Concert Details

Bruce Molsky, Monday December 3rd - House Concert

American fiddler, banjoist, guitarist, singer and teacher Bruce Molsky makes a rare visit to Vancouver on Monday to conclude another incredible weekend of Roots Music. I'm not sure if there are any spaces left, but you can try emailing bull.linda at gmail dot com to find out. www.brucemolsky.com

That's about it for now.

See you soon, I hope. At the Rogue, of course. Where else?
