Keep in Touch

There are two ways you can receive these updates automatically:

Hi everyone

I've just sent the May / June issue of the Rogue Folk review to our webmaster to put up on the website for download [wb: it's ready now].

The mailing party will be tomorrow evening at St. James Hall, prior to the Haugaard & Hoirup concert, so if you'd like to help out please come along from 6pm onwards.

Until we receive some grant money we are in a rather dire cash flow situation. If you are undecided as to whether to come to the next couple of concerts, please consider bringing a few friends along for the sort of supreme entertainment that the Rogue has become renowned for these past 21 years. These concerts are going to be amazing. 100% guaranteed. Or your money back. Please support the Rogue. We need you.

Haugaard & Hoirup, Thursday May 22nd, 8pm, St. James Hall, 3214 West 10th Avenue

An evening of sizzling Danish music - some of the most lyrical and evocative music Europe has ever produced. Harald Haugaard is a brilliant young fiddler and Morten Alfred Hoirup is one of the most dynamic rhythm guitarists around. Morten also sings the occasional song from the huge repertory of traditional Danish ballads (Europe's largest collection, by the way.) They have been playing together for 10 years, and have just launched a CD / DVD to mark the occasion, entitled Rejsedage / Travelling. It will be available in Canada for the first time this evening. We know it's a Thursday, and most of you have to work the next day, but it won't be a late night. It will most assuredly be an inspirational one. Won't you please join us? Take a chance on Danish music. If you like Celtic music, you'll be delighted and amazed! More information, www.hhduo.dk You can also watch a You Tube performance on our concert page.

The Wilders, Friday May 30th, 8pm, St. James Hall, 3214 West 10th Avenue

The Wilders hail from Kansas City, and play a scintillating blend of old time fiddle tunes, honky tonk and old country songs. We defy you to sit still! they all sing into one central mic, in the old style, and weave around each other to take instrumental solos. Betse Ellis (fiddle, vocals,) Ike Sheldon (Guitar, vocals,) Nate Gawron (walking bass, vocals,) and Phil Wade (dobro, banjo, mandolin, vocals) have released a DVD and four CDs since their last show here - a sold-out co-bill with the Foghorn Stringband in 2006.

This concert is co-produced with Ron Roth Entertainment, with whom we brought you that wonderful Czech bluegrass band Druha Trava last year. Ron also presented The Avett Brothers and Cadillac Sky - amongst others.

You can read more about The Wilders on www.wilderscountry.com and there are several You Tube video songs on our concert page too.

The Edge On Folk, CiTR fm 101.9, Saturday 8am to 12 noon, and on www.citr.ca as well

Please join me for four hours of the very best in Folk, Roots & World Music. This week I'll have heaps of new releases again, previews of the Summer festivals, and much more. The May 30th edition marks the 23rd Birthday of my show! If you would like to make a request or dedication, please email me over the next few days and I'll try to fit your song in to the anniversary special.

See you at The Rogue!
