1. The Paperboys, Saturday December 13th 8pm, St. James Hall, 3214 West 10th Ave.

We are in for a special concert this weekend with The Paperboys making a rare local appearance. It's at St. James Hall, this Saturday. There's truly something for everyone in their unique hybrid of Celtic / Mexican / Latin / Folk / Acoustic / Alt-Country / Roots / Soul / Pop. They have hot new line-up for this show, too, Tom Landa - vocals, guitars, jarana, piano, Geoffrey Kelly - flute, percussion, vocals, Mark Sullivan - fiddle, Sam Esecson - drums, percussion, Brad Gillard - banjo, bass, vocals, Kareem Kandi - Saxophone, Andy Omdahl - Trumpet. More info on www.paperboys.com. Concert details...

2. Danu presents An Nollaig In Eirinn, Saturday December 20th 8pm, St. James Hall, 3214 West 10th Ave.

One of Ireland's top traditional bands makes a long overdue return to Vancouver to present this magical evening of songs and tunes celebrating Christmas in a uniquely Irish way. In Ireland, the festival of Christmas has for centuries been celebrated by traditional Irish music and song. There are many musical tributes that pay homage to early Irish traditions such as The Laden Table, placing a candle in a window, and touring from house to house on St. Stephen's Day. Adding another dimension to this beautiful program, Danú has also created a set of songs to be performed in each community with a local choir. An Nollaig in Éirinn is a Celtic music celebration that warms the heart. www.danu.net. Concert details...

Annual Danny Burns Feed The Hungry Benefit

Head down to the Wolf & Hound at Broadway & Dunbar on Sunday December 14th for some excellent live Celtic music - and bring some non-perishable food items for the Food Bank.

Winter Harp

This annual celebration of the season features glorious vocals, harp music, percussion and exotic instruments like organistrum. There's also spoken word, and it's all rather magical. You can catch the show at Capilano Performing Arts Theatre on December 17th and 18th, Tickets available at the CPAT Box Office 604-9907810

The Edge On Folk

I'll be playing some new recordings to celebrate the season this Saturday from 8am to noon on CiTR fm 101.9, including the very latest by Danu, Kate Rusby, Loreena McKennitt, Bela Fleck & The Flecktones, and Alison Brown.

Saturday December 20th will be my annual Christmas Show, with music from a wild variety of sources. Seasonal music that you won't hear anywhere else. And nothing that you're likely to hear in a shopping mall, either!

Saturday December 27th will be my Best Of 2008, with 50 or so of the very best stuff that came out this year.

All these shows can be heard live on CiTR fm 101.9 from 8am to noon on Saturdays. You can also stream it live on your computer on www.citr.ca. Podcasts of all shows are available on that website later the same day, and playlists are archived on this website.
