Keep in Touch

There are two ways you can receive these updates automatically:

This week's shows are Fundraisers for renovations in the hall. We need to raise funds as soon as possible in order to make vital improvements in ventilation, flooring, and general comfort in the hall. There will be a Donations table at these shows, where you can make a donation to St. James Community Square and receive a tax receipt for any amount $20 and up. If you can't make it to a show, you can make a secure donation of any amount over $5 (NOT $100 as it says) by clicking on the big blue button at the bottom of the page at www.sjcommunitysquare.org. For information on donating by phone or post, please contact the St. James Square office at 604-739-9373.

1. The Acoustic Guitar Project, Thursday November 17th 8pm, St. James Hall (3214 west 10th Avenue)

This special concert is part of a global music platform and concert series that inspires musicians to write an original song and record it live in one week. The project takes place in over 50 cities around the world. Six local artists are chosen to share one very special Martin acoustic guitar. Each artist has one week to write and record a brand new song with the guitar. They sign it, take their photo with it, and then pass the guitar onto the next artist.

The purpose of the project is to inspire creativity by simplifying its process to the bare essentials, to encourage a deeper connection between the artist and their art, and to tell truthful, meaningful stories. It features Michael Averill, Sadie Campbell, Kristina Lao, Joline Baylis, Tanya Gallagher and Chicken-Like Birds. Come and celebrate the end of the project on Thursday November 17th, where you’ll meet the chosen songwriters, hear the new songs, and the stories behind them. This concert showcases a wide range of musicians all using the same instrument – from raggy-time blues, soulful folk, acoustic rock, to heart-warming roots. Experience what one acoustic guitar can create!

3. Poster Contest - Win Tickets To A Show!!

Each month we launch a postering campaign with a composite poster of the next few events. Competing for poster space around town can be challenging. We have a great professional crew working with us and hundreds of these posters go up around town. But sometimes those posted outdoors don't last long as the next poster crew swoops down and covers them up.

If you see this poster - or the next one - snap a photo of it and email it to us at concerts@roguefolk.bc.ca to win tickets to a future show.
