Hi everyone

Just a quick note to say that I am filling in for Val Cormier on CiTR's Folk Oasis this evening from 8pm to 10pm on 101.9fm and www.citr.ca Tune in for a live set by Vancouver guitar wizard Steve Dawson and some hot new releases.

I'll be back in my regular time slot of 8am to 12 noon on Saturday, of course, for The Edge On Folk.

We have two CD Release concerts this weekend at the St. James Hall, 3214 West 10th Avenue.

The Wheat In The Barley, Friday November 7th, at 8pm

This band combines Celtic, Slavic, and Cajun tunes with original and traditional songs and features some excellent musicians: Mark Dowding on flute, sax and harmonica, Nicole Scoffield on fiddle and vocals, Victor Smith on accordion and flute, Steve Gidora on guitar, bouzouki and vocals, Ed Johnson on percussion, and Mickey Hovan on bass. There will be a guest appearance by singer / songwriter Medderick Crotteau, who also sings on the band's new CD - their 5th to date - Can't Draw The Curtain. The performance will be recorded by CBC Canada Live. More information on The Wheaties can be found on www.wheatinthebarley.com. Concert details...

Steve Dawson, Saturday November 8th, at 8pm

Master guitarist Steve Dawson launches his second CD of 2008, Telescope, which showcases his compositions for pedal steel guitar. Joining him will be JP Carter on trumpet, Chris Gestrin on keyboards, Keith Lowe on bass, Geoff Hickey on drums, and there will be one or two surprise guests too. Steve's previous CD, Waiting For The Lights To Come Up, was launched at St. James Hall in February, and he's working on another new project - a tribute to Country Blues pioneers the Mississippi Sheiks - with some amazing singers. Watch for that release next! Meanwhile, this one will also be recorded by CBC Canada Live. More information on www.blackhenmusic.com, and www.myspace.com/stevedawson05. Concert details...
